Physiotherapy is treatment to restore, maintain, and make the most of a patient’s mobility, function, and well-being.

At GRSM, Physiotherapists provide a whole body biomechanical assessment, “hands-on” techniques used to restore joint function, individualized home or gym rehabilitation programs (including sport-specific strengthening and stretching exercises), and Acupuncture and other modalities to decrease pain and inflammation. Video analysis may also be used (e.g., pitching technique, running gait, golf swing).

Your Physiotherapist will provide you with a clinical diagnosis, explain the nature of your injury and the factors that will contribute to your rehabilitation, educate you regarding your prognosis (how long it will take you to get better), and discuss your goals for treatment.

Pelvic health physiotherapists have specialized training in treating the pelvic floor. This is a group of muscles, joints, and nerves that contribute to bowel and bladder function, sexual function and stability of the pelvis, hips and back. Assessment and treatment of the pelvic floor is done externally as well as internally (vaginally and/or rectally), as many of these muscles cannot be felt from the outside. It is tightness and/or weakness in these muscles that can cause pain and incontinence. Like many other areas of the body, through physiotherapy treatment, the pelvic floor can return to normal function.

Sports massage considers sport-specific demands placed upon your body. It will help you to return to your desired activity/sport with the same or better level of function. Sports massage can use more aggressive techniques than those used for relaxation/stress relief therapy. Not all of our massage therapists bill directly to insurance companies. Please contact that clinic to inquire if you are interested in direct billing. If it is your first time booking a massage appointment or it has been a year since your last appointment, please book an RMT Initial Visit (60 minutes).

The first session is an information gathering session where I will ask about your overall health and your typical diet intake. Diet education and goal setting are discussed at the end of the first session, based on what your needs are. The second session is good to follow up and discuss any barriers you faced, and is an opportunity for me to discuss any other changes we can make and provide calorie and macronutrient goals if this is what you need.

Continued follow-ups are recommended for athletes as their training demands and goals will change throughout the year.

If weight loss is what you are looking for, I do tend to find people have better results if they have someone to be accountable for and provide support. The number of sessions you may need will depend on how independent you are, and how much support you need to continue with the changes.
